ProofMaster
A lead-focused website for academic editing services, built to present the offer clearly and help students find the right support more easily.

Project overview
ProofMaster is a UK-based academic editing service supporting both native and non-native English-speaking students with proofreading and editing designed to improve clarity, quality and academic outcomes.
The website needed to function as both a marketing platform and a service-delivery tool. Users needed to understand the offer quickly, upload documents easily, select relevant services and complete checkout with confidence, all within a secure and user-friendly experience.
Working in collaboration with Figment Agency, I rebuilt the platform from scratch as a custom WordPress and WooCommerce website with file-upload workflows, service logic, responsive design and a back-end setup that remained manageable for non-technical staff. This kind of work is most closely aligned with WooCommerce development, custom WordPress development and ongoing support.
The challenge
This was more than a brochure website. The platform needed to support a complete service workflow, including document uploads, pricing logic, checkout and payment handling, while still feeling clear and accessible for students under academic pressure.
The site needed to guide users from service selection through file upload and checkout without friction.
Standard e-commerce behaviour needed to be adapted for document-based academic services.
Internal proofreaders needed a manageable back end for handling services and content.
The platform needed to stay fast, discoverable and secure despite handling uploaded documents and payment flows.
What was delivered
I rebuilt the website from scratch using design assets supplied by Figment Agency, implementing a custom WordPress and WooCommerce solution tailored to ProofMaster’s editing workflow. The result combined service-led UX, responsive design and operational functionality into a more scalable digital platform.
Built the website from the ground up using a starter boilerplate and tailored front-end implementation.
Adapted the e-commerce journey to fit document upload and proofreading service selection.
Users can upload .doc, PDF and .txt files directly through the service flow.
The platform automatically counts words and supports primary and additional service options.
The site was optimised for different devices and orientations.
ACF made the platform easier for non-technical proofreaders to manage.
Core functionality included
A service-led e-commerce platform tailored to academic editing workflows.
Customers can upload .doc, PDF and .txt files directly through the ordering process.
Uploaded documents are analysed to support service pricing and selection.
The ordering flow supports multiple service combinations and add-ons.
Users can include notes and additional formatting files as part of the order.
Customers receive order confirmation with an attached invoice after checkout.
The site supports PayPal and bank transfer payments.
Uploaded customer files are stored securely in Dropbox.
Internal users can manage content and services more easily without technical knowledge.
The platform is optimised for different devices and screen orientations.
Key architecture decisions
One of the most important decisions was treating the website as a custom service platform rather than a standard WooCommerce shop. The user journey needed to revolve around files, word count, service combinations and operational clarity rather than conventional physical product handling.
The build also had to remain manageable for a non-technical internal team, so the back end was shaped to make updates and content handling easier while preserving the custom front-end experience.
The ordering flow was adapted around document handling and proofreading logic.
Uploads, word counting and service options work together as one system.
ACF helped keep management practical for non-technical users.
The platform was built to stay efficient and safe despite handling customer files and payment flows.
Results and outcomes
The result was a more capable and professional editing-service platform that supports both customer acquisition and service delivery. ProofMaster gained a website that handles document-based orders more effectively while remaining easier to manage and stronger in performance, visibility and reliability.
Users can move from upload to checkout more clearly and confidently.
Word counting and custom service logic reduce manual friction in the process.
WooCommerce was adapted to support ProofMaster’s specialised workflow.
ACF made the platform easier for proofreaders and non-technical users to operate.
Performance, SEO and security improvements made the site more durable and effective.
The website can continue supporting growth without needing a complete rethink of the workflow.
Technology used
The platform was built with WordPress, WooCommerce, ACF, custom file-upload handling, Dropbox integration, responsive front-end development and tailored checkout logic designed for document-based academic services.
This work is especially relevant to WooCommerce development, custom WordPress development and ongoing support for service-led e-commerce platforms.
Next steps
This project shows how WordPress and WooCommerce can be shaped into a custom service platform when the workflow is designed properly. For businesses with more complex ordering requirements, the right architecture can turn a standard website into a practical operational tool.
If you need a custom WooCommerce workflow, service-led WordPress platform or ongoing support for a more advanced website build, the most relevant starting points are usually WooCommerce development, custom WordPress development and support and maintenance.
